TESLA GIGA BERLIN RECEIVED PERMISSION FOR PARTIAL DEFORESTATION

Tesla Giga Berlin Has Received Permission for Partial Deforestation

The Supreme Administrative Court of Berlin-Brandenburg ruled that Tesla could continue further partial deforestation of industrial forests to expand the territory. According to the decree, fell on the outskirts of the forest is prohibited.

The State Environmental Agency initially approved the clearing of 82.9 hectares of forest on November 30. However, on December 7, two environmental associations filed an objection to the competent administrative court. In objection, they argued that deforestation would kill protected species such as the sand lizard and smooth snake in their underground winter dwellings. For this reason, on December 8, the court urgently terminated the preliminary clearing agreement.

On December 10, an administrative court allowed further clearing of the forest at Tesla's construction site, as there was no compelling reason to suspend it. Nevertheless, environmental organizations appealed to the Supreme Administrative Court of Berlin-Brandenburg, which forbade the clearing of the territory before the announcement of a decision in this case.

Today it became known that Tesla was allowed to continue work on cutting down the industrial forest, except for territories on the outskirts. According to the decree, wintering sand lizards live here, which are unlikely to survive clearance measures. Cleaning on the outskirts and in the lane along the motorway was prohibited. In other parts of the forest that were previously approved for clearance, felling is permitted.
