The ultimate purpose of your education today is to prepare you for a career or profession. A profession is a vocation based on specialised education or training. A professional is an individual who received such training. There are many advantages in pursuing a professional career. You will have your skill developed; you can be self-reliant, have opportunity for professional development and membership to professional bodies. To become a professional tomorrow, you need to work hard today. In a couple of years, a prefix will be added to your name for life. Elijah was identified by his profession, career and calling. He was called a prophet because he did the work of a prophet. The Bible often identifies men by their profession. Paul says “If any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
